The past few days

The past few days have been amazing...we have experienced and seen so much! Travelling on a motorcycle has been a beautiful way to really see this country. The people are incredibly friendly and welcoming. We love the "dutch" feel. The language spoken here is known as Afrikaans. It's a combination of Dutch, German, and the indigenous San and the Kohi-Kohi people. We can actually understand some of the words- it's really cool! The food is amazing...we've had some traditional African food and then for tonight we had Indian food.

Today we are in Zimbabwe at Victoria Falls and after the Falls we are heading to The Livingstone Manor to have high tea. David Livingstone is believed to be the first European to view the falls and he gave it the name Victoria Falls after Queen Victoria.

Tonight we will be back in Botswana for a sunset cruise on the Chobe River. It's a National park with the highest population of elephants in all of Africa and it's a popular watering hole for other large animals like cape buffalo, hippos and giraffes.

Once we are out of the town, the only traffic we are encountering is herds of elephants, springbok, giraffes, ostrich that like to run beside and infront of the bikes, and wild horses. It's pretty cool!

Okavanga Delta

Monday morning we left the Kalahari Arms Hotel and rode 300 km to Maun.  Here we went on a chartered flight over the Okavango Delta which was a beautiful way to see this incredible area. Our pilot thought he was Maverick from the movie Top Gun leaving a few people a little green. We spotted elephants, giraffes, and wilderbeast thanks to our guide Henk.

Once we arrived there were safari trucks waiting for us to take us on our first game drive. The animals we saw were just amazing! Think of any African animal that you know and I think we saw it! AND it was up close.

Downloading pictures on this internet is slow so I'll post a few more later.

Zelda's Game Farm Gobabis

Wow my blogger friends I have sooo much to share and such a little internet window. I think I will make this a written blog instead of pictures as the internet isn't letting me download any.

We have had an amazing few days...awesome motorcyle rides with wild ostriches running along side of the bikes...a game farm with a walking experience with authentic San Bush people and a village set up like the original way of tribal life. There has been lots of goats, donkeys, and cattle wandering all around on the road, at times crossing in front of us. One of the lodges had a couple of meerkats that were friendly enough you could pet them sometimes.

Really cool towns that we have riden through.

Fantastic food and beautiful lodges. We are getting ready to depart on a small airplane ride over the Okavanga Delta and then sleeping in tents in a bush safari tonight!

Hopefully I will be able to post some pictures the next time I have internet.

Touring around Nambia

What a day! Enjoyed a early morning hike. Then off to Windhoek town center for a little last minute shopping for things like bug spray and electrical adapters. A quick over view of the motorcycle insurance etc. and then off for a double decker bus tour of the surrounding area in Nambia. It was quite the experience as you could see how the different tribes live and how each area was very distinct. Our minds are full of history and  the sights. We stopped at a local market where people share their trades and sell their goods. We even visited a train station so there's a few train pictures in there for you Kurt!

Travel Day

Greetings from Johannesburg South Africa!!

We have arrived safely despite a few moments of panic. Like at the Buffalo Airport when Rob forgot his wallet in the van and Colin had to come back and like when our plane all of a sudden shut down while moving out of the gate at JFK in New York! The connecting flight from JFK to Atlanta was tight but we did it!!
There was quite a bit of turbulence too but it actually lulled us to sleep. Trying to sleep in our chairs reminded us of the time we drove straight to Nova Scotia and tried to sleep in the van chairs at one of those rest stops along side the road. No matter how exciting it all is- sleeping in a chair is sleeping in a chair. It kinda sucks! We did however enjoy tons of movies and documentaries which we would never have had a chance to watch otherwise.

It was so strange with the time change. We went 6 hours ahead...so we boarded the flight at 7:30pm last night and flew all night and day until we landed here at 5:30pm. But as we travelled through the night it actually became daytime so they kept the plane windows closed and the cabin darkened so you really had no sense of the time. When it felt like the night they woke us up for a breakfast snack!! It was weird!

Tomorrow we take the last flight over to Windhoek Namibia. We are looking forward to a few days relaxing there before we meet up with the tour group.

The Bike

So let's build some more anticipation!

The Adventure is fueled and ready to go.

Glenda is wondering where the Starbucks cup holder is.

The countdown is on.....

Exactly 12 days from now we will be on our way to Africa. We have had all the necessary immunizations. We have all the necessary documents. We have flights that are booked. We have the list of all the (amazing!) lodges and safari camps where we will be staying during the 3 weeks of this trip. We have some new motocycle gear.

WE STILL CAN'T BELIEVE WE ARE DOING THIS!!

But it is true. In 12 days. This is crazy exciting!
